Yekaterina Drozd - Gap Year: Two 6-Month Internships: ADE & BOSCH
During my gap year, I had the opportunity to complete two six-month internships that significantly enriched my skills in data analysis and machine learning.
Internship at ADE in Belgium:
ADE (Analysis for Economic Decisions) is a consulting firm based in Belgium specializing in public policy evaluation, project management, and economic studies. ADE works with various international organizations, government agencies, and private companies to provide in-depth analysis and strategic advice aimed at improving decision-making and the effectiveness of policies and programs.
During this internship, I contributed to the impact and strategic evaluations of the World Food Programme (WFP) in Iraq and Ukraine by conducting quantitative and qualitative data analyses. I also worked on agricultural data analysis for Rikolto and participated in the development of data collection questionnaires for Enabel.
The R and STATA programs I learned at TSE proved to be very useful in the field of impact evaluation. I had to use these tools extensively.
Internship at BOSCH:
Bosch is a German multinational leader in technology and services. Founded in 1886, the company is renowned for its innovative and high-quality products in various sectors, including automotive, power tools, industrial technology, and consumer goods.
I had the honor of holding a data analyst position at Bosch. There, I developed an AI program using Machine Learning to detect defective parts from images captured by production machine cameras. I also leveraged SAP data to create informative dashboards with Databricks and PowerBI, analyzed the effects of series changes, and optimized production performance through Python programs.
Working on international projects at ADE and in a multinational company like Bosch also highlighted the crucial importance of mastering English to communicate effectively and collaborate with global teams.
This gap year allowed me to acquire valuable skills and have enriching professional experiences. I highly recommend that all students seize the opportunity to take a gap year to explore the professional world and develop their skills.
