Business Talk with Agnès Bénassy-Quéré, Deputy-Governor of the Banque de France
We are delighted to welcome Agnès Bénassy-Quéré, Deputy-Governor of the Banque de France for a Business Talk on Thursday, October 9 who will talk about " The 2022-23 Inflation Wave: Assessment Two Years Later ".
Abstract:
Most countries have experienced a marked increase in inflation in the course of 2022-2023. Now that consumer price inflation is back or close to target in most juridictions, I propose to dig into the triggers of the inflation wave. The world economy has gone through several and exceptional shocks over the past few years, starting with a pandemic and a lockdown, followed by supply side bottlenecks and pent-up demand. In the euro area, sharp energy price increases during the post-Covid recovery were amplified by the war in Ukraine. We will review how the shocks unfolded, their contribution to inflation and the critical role of credible monetary policies in the desinflationary episode that followed.
