A D3S Master’s student wins first prize at an AI Hackathon
A Prestigious Competition at ESSEC Business School
Anaïs Boughanem, a Master 2 student in Data Science for Social Sciences (D3S), won first place overall at the "LLM to Agentic AI" Hackathon organized by Utopia and KRYPTOSPHERE® at ESSEC Business School.
Gathering of top talent
The event brought together over 100 participants and 20 selected teams from top French institutions including ENSAE, Mines, CentraleSupélec, Polytechnique, Dauphine, Télécom Paris, Sorbonne, 42, and others. Over the course of an intense 36-hour coding marathon, teams tackled real-world challenges across three innovation tracks: Cybersecurity, Consumer, and Finance & Industry.
The winning project: Trustee
Tackling online fraud with AI
Anaïs’s team competed in the Cybersecurity track with their project Trustee – a Chrome extension that protects online buyers from scams on platforms like eBay. Trustee analyzes product listings and buyer–seller conversations to provide a fraud risk score, highlight red flags, and suggest secure replies.
Anaïs was responsible for designing and developing the AI model behind the solution, integrating a RAG (Retrieval-Augmented Generation) pipeline and LLM-based reasoning to score and explain scam risks.
A double victory and future prospects
Recognition across all tracks
Not only did Trustee win the Cybersecurity track, but it was also awarded best overall project across all three tracks. The solution will soon be presented to leading tech players, including a pitch session at Google.
